The playful design reflects Takali’s colourful, character-driven branding, which forms part of the brewery’s wider focus on creating beers inspired by local flavours, traditions and Maltese culture.
The new microbrewery represents a €1.5 million investment and is being led by Matthew and Francesca Buttigieg. Takali has a production capacity of around 7,000 litres per month and is developing a range of lagers, pale ales, IPAs and sour beers.
Among its more unusual creations are a lager made with lime and salt from Xwejni in Gozo, a prickly pear beer and a strawberry gelato sour.
The brewery is also placing a strong emphasis on freshness, with the aim of serving beer directly at its Ta’ Qali taproom and beer garden and keeping the journey from tank to glass as short as possible.
During the inauguration, Abela said the project reflects the type of investment the government wants to continue encouraging, particularly projects built around creativity, innovation and products with a distinct identity.
The investment was also supported through Malta Enterprise’s Business Development Scheme.
